HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs arrested a man at Lo Wu Control Point here the other day and seized 518 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 376 grams of suspected heroin, 71 suspected Nimetazepam tablets, 202 sticks of dutiable cigarettes and apparatus suspected to be used for drug inhalation, with a total market value of about $460,000.
Customs officers intercepted an incoming passenger at Lo Wu Control Point this morning and found 507 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 376 grams of suspected heroin, 202 sticks of dutiable cigarettes and apparatus suspected to be used for drug inhalation in a backpack carried by him. Upon investigation, Customs officers further seized 11 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 71 suspected Nimetazepam tablets from his residence.
The 45-year-old man, who claimed to be a decoration worker, was arrested for suspected trafficking in a dangerous drug and suspected possession of dutiable goods. The case is still under investigation.
the man will appear at Fanling Magistrates’ Courts for mention on October 2.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
Under the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance, anyone involved in possession of dutiable cigarettes commits an offence. The maximum penalty is a fine of $1 million and imprisonment for two years.
