HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs seized about 103 grams of suspected smuggled diamonds with an estimated market value of about $5.5 million at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on August 8.
Customs officers intercepted an outgoing private car at Shenzhen Bay Control Point for inspection in the evening on August 8. A batch of suspected smuggled diamonds was found in the private car’s glove box. The 61-year-old male driver was arrested. Investigation is ongoing and the arrested man has been released on bail pending further investigation. Smuggling is a serious offence. Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo is liable to a maximum fine of $2 million and imprisonment for seven years.
