HONG KONG: Hong Kong shares have fallen 1.57 per cent in the opening minutes of trade after a weekend announcement that manufacturing activity slowed in mainland China in July.
The city’s benchmark Hang Seng Index was down 386.54 points to 24,249.54 on Monday.
Chinese shares also opened lower on the negative purchasing managers’ index, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 1.33 per cent, or 48.74 points to 3,614.99.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, fell 1.49 per cent, or 31.49 points, to 2,079.13.
