HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks were lower by the break Friday as traders awaited a US jobs report, while Shanghai extended a third straight day of gains.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index fell 0.82 percent by lunchtime, dropping 189.84 points to 22,861.2, while the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.52 percent, or 18.20 points, to 3,541.02.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, gained 1.75 percent, or 36.58 points, to 2,130.05.
