HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks were virtually unmoved in opening trade Wednesday following a weak lead from Wall Street, while Shanghai retreated from a near seven-year high.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index dipped 1.00 point to 24,398.60.
In mainland China the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.54 percent, or 19.94 points, to 3,671.47.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, lost 0.27 percent, or 5.17 points, to 1,917.68.
