BEIJING: Hong Kong stocks have started 0.66 per cent weaker as a lukewarm led from Wall Street.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index dipped 158.63 points to 23,699.19 at the start on Monday.
In Shanghai, Chinese shares gained on Monday morning, the first trading day of 2015, on hopes of further monetary easing by the government to boost the economy, dealers said.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index added 0.65 per cent, or 21.09 points, to 3,255.77.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, edged up 0.19 per cent, or 2.67 points, to 1,417.86.
