Hosiery exports record 7.54pc growth in 11 months

ISLAMABAD: The country’s hosiery industry has witnessed 7.54 percent growth in exports July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, reports Chinese agency Xinhua.

According to the official data, the hosiery industry registered exports of $1,791.789 million during July 2014 to March 2015 against $1,666.143 million during the same period last year.

In quantity terms, the exports of knitwear industry increased by 1.67 percent during the said period. There are about 13,372 circular knitting machines, 10,646 flat knitting and 23,241 socks knitting machines spread all over Pakistan.

The capacity utilization is approximately 70 percent and there is greater reliance on the development of this industry as there is substantial value addition in the form of knitwear, the data said.

The data showed that Pakistan’s export earnings from ready-made garments also increased significantly as with an increase of 8.51 per cent in terms of value with 22.843 million dozens various types of items worth 1548.282 million US dollars during the same period.
