AFRICA: Flying ants have blighted this weekend’s hot weather for many people.
Some have posted their skin-crawling pictures on social media during the past 48 hours.
Even celebs like Eamonn Holmes and McBusted singer Danny Jones have been grumbling about the airborne bugs.
But a video by ABC pest control gives a revealing insight into the colony structure behind the gliding menaces – and how to get shot of them for good.
A spokesman for the company says: “Flying ants can be a real problem, and the first step in getting rid of them is finding out where they are nesting and using baits to kill them.”
In the clip, pest control expert Mark Govan says: “Getting rid of flying ants can be a real problem.
Number one because they do fly, which means they’re up in the air and they can land just about everywhere.
“Wherever the wind blows, that’s were you are going to see the flying ants.”
He highlights the fact that flying ants are the secondary reproductives of an ant colony – so killing them won’t solve the problem on its own.
