NEW YORK: Whether you are on Android, or iOS, Google Maps is there to help you that how to use it more efficiently. The following tips and tricks along with shortcuts will help you reach your desired spot more hassle free.
GOOGLE MAPS SAVING AND VIEWING OFFLINE IN YOUR MOBILE:
This saves you the trouble of having a working data connection all the time. What it essentially does is download a specific area on the map when data connection is available and make it available for viewing when connection is off.
Note that offline maps are not available on the Google Maps for Mobile app for each and every area.
Saving an available area for offline viewing is simple:
- Move the map to the area you’d like to save.
- Touch anywhere inside the search box at the top of the map, and scroll down to the bottom. You’ll find the ‘save map’ option, just tap it to use it offline.
CHANGING THE ORIENTATION OF THE MAP
You can change the orientation of the map to point in the direction you’re moving in by, Once you’re in navigation mode, tap the compass icon on the right side of the screen to see the map from your point of view.
WALKING DIRECTIONS
Google Maps gives you the option to commute to a spot by car (by default), by public transit or by walking. Note that not all locations will have all options together.
To get walking directions to and from the bus or train stops required to get to your destination, you simply need to select the walking icon at the top of your ‘To and from’ directions page.
FAVORITE PLACES
Go to Google Maps settings > Edit home or work to add your locations. Once this is done, all you’ll have to do next time is type in home or work in the search bar to receive directions automatically. This is particularly helpful when you’re on the go. You can also add other favourites similarly.
SHARING LOCATIONS WITH FRIENDS
- Touch and hold to drop a pin on your desired spot in Google aps. Tap on the place’s description to see more details.
- Look for the Share button in the details section, and select the mode (Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.) you want to share this location through and you are done.
