NEW YORK: Good news for the HTC One M8 flagship or the previous HTC One M7 users is that Android Lollipop has now released to the Google Play Editions of these phones.
Many readers who have either the HTC One (M8) or One (M7) will already know that the company pledged to deliver the Android Lollipop update to the devices within 90 days of Google supplying them with the final build. That happened at the beginning of November so implied that the rollout would reach devices no later than early February 2015.
The GPe versions of the One M8 and M7 are now being treated to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and on the back of that HTC has issued some news for those with the standard models. As far as carrier versions are concerned, the company states that it’s “still on track.”
Some readers may have an unlocked or Developer edition of these handsets and for them the info is slightly different. HTC merely says there will be “more news” on the update for these versions soon, and going on previous patterns we’d expect Android Lollipop would release for these versions before carrier models. Quite when is up in the air for now but it could be very soon.
When Android 5.0 Lollipop does start to roll out to the One M8 and M7 it will still be using HTC’s Sense 6 UI. It will not be Sense 7 as has been previously rumoured, as this is unlikely to arrive for several months yet. Of course it’s worth pointing out that although users can expect carrier versions of the One M8 and M7 to get the update by the early part of February, there’s always a chance that HTC could be ready to push it out earlier than that, so fingers crossed.
