WASHINGTON: HTC has reported consolidated revenues of NT$6.517 billion (US$198.1 million) for December 2015, down 36.64% on month and 57.08% on year. The monthly figures were also the lowest level since October 2005.

The sharp decline in monthly revenues indicated that sales of its newly released HTC One A9 have been lower than expected since its launch in October 2015, according to market sources.

Meanwhile, revenues for the fourth quarter of 2015 totaled NT$25.748 billion, rising 20.31% on quarter but dropping 46.21% on year. For all of 2015, revenues amounted to NT$121.684 billion, declining 35.24% from a year earlier.

The US has been a major market for HTC, but HTC currently holds a mere 3% share in the smartphone market in the US as sales of its latest flagship model, the HTC One M9, have been lower than expected, the sources noted.

Although HTC remains one of the major players in Taiwan’s smartphone market, its sales in the local market have been driven by mid-range Desire-series products, which have failed to ramp up its revenues significantly, commented the sources.
