NEW DELHI: Earlier today, we told you that Huawei could announce a new high-end, extra large handset on September 2. More exactly, this handset is expected to be the Huawei Mate 8, which should succeed last year’s Ascend Mate7.

While Huawei hasn’t confirmed the existence of the Mate 8, Chinese website CNMO posted two renders that allegedly show the new device.

Assuming that this is indeed the Mate 8, the smartphone doesn’t look too different from the Mate7, though we can see that the flash of its rear camera has been repositioned (standing above the fingerprint scanner), while the front-facing camera might also have an LED flash of its own.

Since the Mate7 sports a 6-inch display, we’re guessing that the Mate 8 will come with a similarly sized screen. In fact, rumors have it that the new device will offer a 6-inch Quad HD screen. Moreover, it’s said that the Mate 8 should be powered by an octa-core Huawei Kirin 950 processor (unannounced yet), further featuring a 20 MP rear camera, and an 8 MP front-facing camera. The new Mate might have two variants: one with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage space, and another one with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage space.
