WASHINGTON: As the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is about to celebrate Hubble’s 25th anniversary, the Hubble Telescope is now dubbed as the world’s greatest scientific instrument.
Prior to the launch of Hubble, it almost became a national disgrace due to technical issues and alike. When everything was set correctly and it started working perfectly, the Hubble became a national pride, a national treasure.
The disgrace of Hubble started when astronomers find out that it had a defective lens. To fix it, astronauts had to spacewalk to get to it.
Neil deGrasse Tyson, a known astrophysicist hailed the Hubble as “the most fertile scientific instrument there ever was.” Tyson is also the director of New York’s Hayden Planetarium.
According to Tyson, the Hubble has provided the world with beautiful images of nebulae, distant galaxies and nearby planets. Hubble images gave us a glimpse of what the cosmos look like, how pillars of gas forms and “Hubble turned the galaxy into our backyard,” says Tyson, who hosted a recent remake of the iconic TV show Cosmos and was inspired by original Cosmos host Carl Sagan. a better picture of the bright galaxies.
