MULTAN: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan seized 100 tola of gold and $20,000 currency notes from a lady passenger at the Multan International Airport.
According to details, Customs Intelligence and Investigation’s Anti-Money Laundering Unit has received a tip-off from an informer that smuggling attempt of gold and currency notes could be possible from Multan International Airport. Deputy Director Customs Intelligence Abdul Mueed Kanjoo deployed a special staff to thwart the smuggling.
The customs staff thoroughly examined the baggage of all the passengers. The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office found 100 tola gold and US dollar currency notes in the luggage of a lady passenger at scanning who was travelling to Dubai.
The team of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation asked about the possession of the baggage after the recovery of gold and foreign currency notes. A lady passenger appeared and claimed the possession of luggage which contained gold and US currency notes at the time of clearance.
The customs team arrested the female passenger. Arrested woman was identified as Sajida Bibi, a resident of New Multan Colony. The recovered gold and currency notes were seized under the Customs Act-1969 and female passenger was arrested for making an attempt of doing money laundering and gold smuggling. The customs team has lodged an First Information Report (FIR) against the lady smuggler. Further investigations are under process.
