BUDAPEST: Hungarian residents working in other countries earned a record 3.1 billion euros last year, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Monday.
The total includes the earnings of Hungarian residents in cross-border jobs, the paper noted. Citing figures from the central bank, Hungarians had earned a total 1.5 billion euros before the global crisis, and nearly twice as much in 2013.
The small increase in the total during the past two years, however, indicates worthat Hungarian job-seekers are willing to go abroad even for lower salaries, the paper said. In 2010, some 50,000 Hungarian residents were working abroad.
This rose to just below 100,000 in 2013 and further increased to 118,000 last year, the paper said.
