Hungary retail sales up 7.2% in June: KSH

BUDAPEST: Retail sales in Hungary saw a year-on-year rise of 7.2% in June, sharply up from May’s 4.4% rise, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported in a second reading of data today, with figures being the same as in the first release.

KSH data suggest that in year-on-year terms, the volume of retail sales increased by 6.2%, while the volume of sales increased by 4.5% in specialized and non-specialized food retailing. The volume of sales grew by 4.1% in non-specialized food, drinks and tobacco stores accounting for 77% of food retailing, and by 5.9% in specialized food, beverage and tobacco stores, the report reveals.

According to KSH, the turnover of non-food retailing increased by 8.1%, sales rose in second hand goods shops (15%), textiles, clothing and footwear shops, books, computer equipment and other specialized stores (both 12%), non-specialized stores (11%), as well as in pharmaceutical, medical goods and cosmetics shops (7.1%), while the volume of sales in furniture and electrical goods was unchanged.
