BUDAPEST: State secretary of Hungary’s foreign ministry Levente Magyar signed an agreement on the opening of a new trade office in Tunisia.

The new trade office will start operating in a few months, Magyar said, speaking to MTI by telephone from Tunis after a meeting of the Hungarian-Tunisian Joint Economic Committee here the other day.

Magyar, who co-chairs the committee, said the opening of the trade office is financed from a more than 10 million euro credit line opened by Eximbank. Magyar also participated at a business forum attended by seven major Hungarian companies and about 30 Tunisian businesses. He noted that there are several agricultural cooperation projects under preparation.

A scholarship programme, through which there are currently 100 Tunisian students studying in Hungary, will be expanded by at least 50 percent and extended to include postgraduate courses, he added.

Magyar said they also discussed plans to establish direct flights between the two capitals. He noted that the two countries’ prime ministers are scheduled to meet in Budapest in May.
