BUDAPEST: Hungary’s ratio of electricity imports dropped to 28.2% of total electricity consumption in the January-July period, compared to a ratio of 33.6% in the same period a year earlier, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today based on data from transmission system operator Mavir.
The proportion of imported electricity dropped to 23.9% in July alone, from last July’s 38.3%. According to Mavir, the decline is due to capacity shutdowns for maintenance in the base period, the news agency reported.
Total electricity consumption edged up 0.7% to 25.5 TWh in the first seven months, compared to the same period a year earlier. Last year, electricity consumption reached 43.8 TWh, of which imports accounted for 31.3%, MTI noted, which was still under the record 43.9 TWh in 2008.
