BUDAPEST: The Central Statistics Office (KSH) revealed in a second reading of data that Hungary’s trade surplus revised upwards to €709 million in January, up from the €691 million of the first reading released at March 11.
In year-on-year terms, the surplus increased by €202 million, while exports increased by 3.7%, reaching €6.84 billion, and imports were also up 0.7%, reaching €6.13 bln. KSH said that the increase in the volume of machinery and transport equipment was 11% in exports and 10% in imports. Export and import volumes of manufactured goods were up by 6.9% and 5.9%, respectively.
Import of fuels and electric energy – along with a price decrease in HUF terms – was 13% lower, while export volumes of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 0.4% and their import volume fell by 2.3%.
Regarding European Union members, export and import volumes grew by 7.6% and 7.7%, respectively. The surplus on our trade was €23million more, €795million. The share of EU member states was 80% in exports and 76% in imports. In extra-EU trade, the volume of exports grew by 6.9% and that of imports increased by 0.2%. The deficit in relation with this group of countries was €179 million less, €86 million.
