The Australian Rail Track Corporation said the Hunter Valley coal rail network is “slowly getting back to normal operations” with coal shipments by rail starting to trickle into the three Newcastle ports for the first time in 10 days.
In the 24 hours to midnight Wednesday, a total of 186,000 mt of coal was received at the Port Waratah Coal Services terminals and the producer-operated Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group terminal, the Hunter Valley Coal Chain Coordinator reported Thursday.
This was a sharp increase from the 59,000 mt railed through the Hunter Valley coal rail network in the previous 24 hours.
Rail shipments to the terminals were halted April 20 when gale force winds, heavy rain and high swells lashed the New South Wales coast.
