Hydel Rs1.50, coal-powered Rs7 per unit: Govt urged to generate cheaper electricity, not to privatise Wapda

ISLAMABAD: Thousands of Wapda workers from across the country, under the aegis of “All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA along with Engineers Association, protested against the privatisation of the authority in front of National Press Club and marched to Parliament House.

The protesters demanded the government to generate cheaper electricity through hydel and coal fired thermal power stations costing Rs1.50 and Rs7 per unit respectively in comparison with high priced furnace oil thermal power stations costing Rs18 to 30 per unit, instead of privatising national entity.
