Hyderabad ASO confiscates diesel, bus worth Rs 2.3m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized 6,000 litres of diesel and a bus being used for the transportation of the smuggled diesel. The valued of confiscated items is estimated at Rs 2.3 million.

Model Customs Collectorate Additional Director Omar Shafique following information regarding the smuggling made a team comprising Inspector Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh, Sepoys Muhammad Usman Jonejo, Muhammad Sadiq and driver Nisar Hamdani to foil the smuggling bid.

The team intercepted a bus bearing Registration No. QAE-5368 near Noriabad Super Highway and found a hidden tank carrying Iranian diesel during checking. The officials asked the driver to produce documents showing legal import of the vehicle but he remained fail; therefore, the ASO team impounding the 6,000 litres of diesel valued at Rs 360,000 involving duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 176,400 and bus under the prevailing customs laws.

During the raid, three accused persons named Dar Muhammad, Shahzad and Abdul Fateh were arrested, while FIR against them has been lodged for further investigation.
