Hyderabad ASO recovers Iranian smuggled diesel, destroyed illegal petrol pumps

KARACHI: Customs Collectorate Hyderabad Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) recovered 70,000 liters Iranian diesel and 45,000 liters Iranian petrol during a operation, while during another crackdown the ASO team seized fake chassis numbers.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Hyderabad Agha Shahid Majeed received secret information that some people are selling smuggled Iranian diesel and petrol through illegal petrol pumps which are established in the city of Hyderabad. He immediately directed Additional Collector ASO Umer Shafiq to use all available resources to detect these petrol pumps.

After receiving the instructions Additional Collector Umer Shafiq constituted a team comprising Inspector Usman Khan, Inspector Pervez Shahid and Inspector Ibrahim Shah. The team started checking documents of petrol pumps. During checking four petrol pumps failed to provide any relevant documents about selling and ownership of petrol pumps. After their failure ASO team destroyed these petrol pumps and seized all the petrol and diesel which was kept in these petrol pumps. ASO team also arrested all the six persons who were present on the occasion and registered a case of smuggling against them.

During another crackdown ASO team seized huge quantity of fake chassis. Sources said that ASO authorities received information that some people dumped chassis of various vehicles in a godown. ASO team raided the said godown and recovered chassis of various vehicles and engines of jeeps. ASO team arrested four persons on the spot and registered a case of smuggling. The market value of seized engines and chassis is Rs4 million.

It is necessary to mention here that ASO team expedite their efforts to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
