Hyderabad ASO recovers smuggled helmets worth Rs 2.5m during road checking

KARACHI: Customs Hyderabad Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has recovered a huge quantity of smuggled helmets during a crackdown.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Hyderabad Agha Shahid Majeed received information that some smugglers are going to smuggle a huge quantity of helmets of heavy bikes. He immediately directed Additional Collector Umer Shafiq to use all resources to thwart the attempt who constituted a team after receiving instructions. The team consisted of Inspector Mumtaz Jokhio, Inspector Raheel Ali Khan, Inspector Gul Zaman Khan and others.

Sources said that ASO team established many pickets at main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles. During checking of vehicles ASO team recovered 500 helmets from a truck. The team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of these helmets but he failed to provide any relevant documents. Upon his failure ASO team seized the helmets and arrested all the four persons who were board on the truck.

The ASO team after registering a case of smuggling started investigations. The market value of seized helmets is Rs2.5 million.
