Hyderabad ASO seizes cigarettes worth Rs 1.5m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) confiscated 39 cartons of smuggled cigarette worth Rs 1.5 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 1.1 million during an operation.

The Hyderabad ASO received credible information through Model Customs Collectorate Collector regarding the possible smuggling attempt in the region from Quetta.

Under the supervision of Additional Collector Umar Shafique, the team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Akbar Phanwar, Inspector Anwar Ahmed Saddiqui, Shake Khan, Imdad Abro and others intercepted a vehicle of M/s Pak international Goods Transport Company near National Highway and recovered 39 cartons of cigarettes assorted brands including Marlboro, Pine, and others.

The ASO team asked the driver to produce documents showing the legal possession and import of the cigarette but he could not show any documents.

Therefore, the customs seized the cigarettes following the prevailing customs laws after making seizure report, while the items have been deposited to Hyderabad State Warehouse.
