Hyderabad ASO seizes huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Rs4.9m

HYDERABAD: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sukkur Division recovered smuggled goods 28 bags (153200 pouches) of Indian gutka  and non-customs duty paid  2350 kilograms of betel nuts, 200 sticks of cigarettes, different brands tyres worth Rs4.9 million  including duties and taxes during an action by a customs check-post at  Mureed Shah district Sukkur.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Khalid Hussain Jamali directed his staff to curb smuggling in the region. The customs authorities received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of above said items he immediately constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Kalimullah Wagan,  Inspector Makhan Khan, in-charge, customs check-post.

Prior to the recovery of goods, the ASO team asked the driver to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items but he could not prove anything lawful. So the team seized the goods under the customs bylaws. A case was registered against the accused and sent to the customs adjudication for further legal action. The ASO deposited the confiscated goods in Sukkur Division State Warehouse.

Officials said that Collector Khalid Hussain Jamali had directed to take effective steps for preventing smuggling in the region.
