Hyderabad Collector Ahmad vows to establish customs’ writ in region

KARACHI:  Model Customs Collectorate Hyderabad Collector Dr. Ahmed Mujtaba Memon has said that the writ of Pakistan Customs will be establish in letter and spirit in the region to curb smuggling, besides achieving the revenue target.

While giving interview to Customs Today he said that the top most priority of Hyderabad collectorate was to give proper protection and guidance to the officials in order to reap the fruitful results.

“We are an enforcing agency that use conferred powers as per law to restrict the unlawful activities within the jurisdiction of the collectorate, adding that the team of MCC Hyderabad is consisted of devoted, competent and skilled officers”, collector added.

Collector Dr. Ahmed Mujtaba Memon said that the every individual of the collectorate including additional collectors, deputy collectors, assistant collectors and others were well aware of their duties and performing their job with full devotion.

Responding to a query, the MCC Hyderabad collector said that the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the collectorate has confiscated around 25 non-duty paid vehicles in a month and also seized vessels containing thousands of liters smuggled Iranian diesel and petrol.

Collector Dr. Ahmed Mujtaba Memon revealed that the team of the MCC Hyderabad was also working with the authorities concerned of MCC Preventive to dismantle the illegal petrol pumps in the vicinity of Sindh province.

He said that the non-availability of technical staff in import section creating difficulties in clearance of the consignments at dry port as proper training and skill-set were needed to improve the performance of the collectorate.

He urged that the skilled staff from Custom House-Karachi should be deployed at dry port Hyderabad to train the officials of the import section.

To a query, Dr Ahmed stated that strict surveillance was being conducted at all check-posts of Hyderabad-Sukkur in order to curb smuggling activities; adding that sale of legal petrol was increasing due the tight vigilance of ASO-Hyderabad collectorate.

Answering to another query, collector said that 80 percent of the total revenue of the collectorate was generating from import of diesel, adding that decrease in the POL prices has affected the revenue collection.

The MCC Hyderabad collector further lauded the performance of the Adjudication collector and stated that he was playing an effective role in recovering the legitimate revenue of the government.

During the interview, Collector MCC Hyderabad, Dr Mujtaba Memon said that the collectorate was also making arrangements in order to hold auctions before the end of current fiscal year2014-15 for ensuring achievement of revenue targets.

He confirmed that the authorities concerned of the collectorate were enjoying amicable relation and strong liaison with the authorities concerned of law enforcing agencies (LEAs) in order to uproot the illegal activities from the province.
