Hyderabad Customs’ FIU seizes smuggled items worth Rs 19.5 million in Q4 of FY 2014-15

HYDERABAD: The Customs Investigation and Intelligence’s Field Investigation Unit (FIU) has impounded non-duty paid vehicles and a diesel oil tanker, besides seizing various contraband items worth Rs 19.53 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 12.18 million during the last quarter (April-June) of fiscal year 2014-15.

As per the details, Customs FIU following the directives of Customs Intelligence Director General Lutfullah Virk and Director Asif Marghoob foiled many attempts to smuggle Iranian diesel, cloth and other items into Pakistan.

The raiding party, under the supervision of Superintendent Ghulam Younas Khan and comprising Deputy Superintendent Irfan Khan, Inspector Irfan Ghani, Inspector Noor Muhammad Shah, Inspector Yawar Abbas and others, took active part in action against smugglers during April-June of fiscal year 2014-15.

The Hyderabad FIU impounded non-duty paid Toyota Surf double cabin valued at Rs 1.2 million, Suzuki Sierra Jeep worth Rs 500,000, Toyota Fielder car worth Rs 1.2 million, Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep worth Rs 1.4 million and other vehicles of Toyota and Suzuki brands.

Besides, Hyderabad FIU confiscated 15,000 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel worth Rs 1.032 million involving duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 377,982 and foreign origin oil worth Rs 1.95 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 423,234.

The FIU also confiscated 320kg smuggled cloth worth Rs 432,040 involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 142,045 and 41 rolls of foreign origin curtain cloth worth Rs 657,000 involving duty/taxes to the tune of Rs 239,292 during the said period.
