Hyderabad Customs seizes huge quantity of smuggled goods & vehicles: Collector Khalid Jamali

HYDERABAD: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Sukkur division seized smuggled NDP vehicles and goods during three weeks of December.

Collector Khalid Hussain Jamali while talking with Customs Today said that he directed his staff to curb the smuggling attempts in the region and adopt comprehensive strategy in this regard. The ASO team under the supervision of customs authorities conducted different operations in Hyderabad and Sukkur division, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dera Mor, Nawabshah Check Post areas and recovered huge quantity of smuggled goods items.

ASO confiscated different items, including foreign origin 56300 liters of Iranian High Speed Diesel (HSD) worth millions of rupees, non-customs paid Toyota Land Cruiser jeep with registration plate no: BC-5459, Mitsubishi Pajero, Vitz NDP vehicle Passo car reg No AXM-699, Hino Hood truck farm without body bearing registration No JV-0667 , Toyota Hiace van ( Hi-Roof ) bearing Registration No JF-8798, Toyota Vitz car bearing registration no: AQS- 686, Suzuki heavy motorcycle, Suzuki Scotty old, Passo car registration no AQY-343, Yamaha V max heavy motorcycle registration no LWN-5681 Hino coach bearing registration No BSA-166, Hino truck 10 wheeler bearing registration no TAG-783, Hino truck 10 wheeler bearing registration No TKH-728 vehicles worth million of rupees.

The seizure of other contraband items include foreign origin 3590 kgs of betel nuts, 112 nos of engine old/used, 70 nos Gear box old/used, 153 cartons of cosmetics (different items and brands) f/o cigarettes, non duty paid including 260 nos of Blankets, f/o 60 cartons of cigarette different brands, f/o 187 tyres different size, 590 kgs of cashew Indian, 1000 kgs of Ajino moto, 15632 boxes of tiles different size brands, foreign origin 476 nos of LCD Tvs (22”) and LCD parts and other various items worth Rs 273,046,800 including duty and taxes during the anti-smuggling drive.

The ASO team asked the drivers to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items but they could not prove anything lawful. So the team seized the goods under the customs bylaws. Cases were registered against the accused and sent to the customs adjudication for further legal action. The ASO deposited the confiscated goods in Hyderabad Sukkur Division State Warehouse.

All the above-mentioned anti-smuggling operations were carried out under the supervision of Additional Collector, Deputy Collector, Hyderabad and Sukkur division while the ASO teams comprised in-charge ASO Customs preventive, in-charge Sukkur Division, inspectors, sepoyes, and other staff took part in the operations.

Collector Customs Khalid Hussain Jamali ordered the officials of the ASO to adopt zero tolerance policy against the smugglers who are out to destroy the legal business of the city.
