Hyderabad Customs seizes non-duty paid CNG cylinders

HYDERABAD: Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized foreign origin CNG cylinders 27 pieces worth Rs405, 000 involving duty and taxes Rs 300,406 in the last week of December 2016.

According to sources Field Investigation Unit (FIU) of Customs Intelligence received credible information from director Customs Karachi about transportation of non-duty paid CNG cylinders in the Hyderabad region.

FIU immediately constituted a team comprising Deputy Superintendent Qasim Ali Alvi, Inspector Irfan Ghani, Sepoys Muhammad Imran, Noshad Khan, Sikandar Malaha, Azam Ali Chandio, driver Rao Abdul Sattar and Hanif Somroo.

The team started checking vehicles at Hyderabad bypass. While checking, the team intercepted a trawler bearing registration number JU-5121 near Hatri Police Station, bypass Hyderabad and recovered 27 CNG cylinders. The team asked the driver to show the documents regarding possession and transportation of CNG cylinders but he could not show the required legal documents.

After his failure, the FIU team confiscated CNG cylinders and transferred to Customs Warehouse. Sources said that FIU authorities after registering a case of smuggling against accused persons forward the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceeding.
