Hyderabad I&I posts 51pc growth during 3Q of FY20: Director Sadiqullah Khan

HYDERABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation has performed exceptionally well during the third quarter of the current financial year 2019-20 with 51% growth over the corresponding period of last year.

Moreover, Customs I&I has also achieved 175 percent of the assigned target of Rs135 million for the third quarter. A total of 50 seizures were made from January 2020 to March 2020 worth Rs236.03 million as against Rs156.748 during last corresponding period.

Despite the lockdown due to the Corona Virus pandemic, the I&I shown remarkable increase in the value of seizures for the month of March 2020. During the last month total 23 seizures worth Rs94.716 million were made which is more than 210% of the assigned target for the month of March.

Director Dr. Sadiqullah Khan appreciated the efforts of ASO wing of the Directorate headed by Deputy Director Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi especially the efforts of Intelligence Officer Syed Shafiq Ali and Sepoys Noushad Khan, Ghayas Ahmed Shah, Azam Ali, Muhammad Akhtar, Mazhar Baig, Aleemuddin and Muhammad Ramzan.

The team of ASO worked tirelessly under the supervision of Syed Naeem Akhtar, Additional Director and conducted various Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) and registered 10 seizures worth Rs90.944 million during 3rd quarter of the current Fiscal Year (January to March 2020).

The Directorate conducted six joint operations with Civil Armed Forces (CAF), Pakistan Rangers and Sindh Police during this period. The major items seized during last quarter include:

  • 67,887 dandas smuggled F/o cigarettes Worth Rs.68.713 Million.
  • 39,425 kilogram smuggled betel nuts Worth Rs.17.226 Million.
  • 29,708 kilogram smuggled F/o cloth Worth Rs.34.701 Million.
  • 5,721.8 square meter/98,364 kgs of Iranian tiles Worth Rs.42.989 Million.
  • 21,386 packets Indian gutkha Worth Rs.7.043 Million.

Moreover, during last quarter the Directorate collected Rs19.769 Million from auctions and Rs.7.716 Million through duty & taxes. Overall, during first 3 quarters, the Directorate collected Rs.91.785 million from auctions as well as collected Rs.13.815 Million through duty & taxes.

The Directorate has so far made seizures worth Rs428.568 during first 9 months of current financial year showing a phenomenal growth of 56 percent in the value of seizures over the corresponding period last year. However, the Directorate has so far achieved 79 percent of the assigned target of Rs680 million for the whole financial year 2019-2020.

In the light of overall performance of this Regional Directorate, the Director Dr. Sadiqullah Khan appreciated the whole team and advised them to make all out efforts in the last quarter for achieving the assigned target of Rs680 million.
