Hyderabad I&I seizes smuggled goods worth Rs300m during 1H of FY2019-2020

HYDERABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation was tasked to focus and to intensify efforts to abort any such attempt of narcotics, smuggling within the jurisdiction.
On direction of Director Customs I&I Sadiqullah Khan Special Investigation Unit cultivated a network of informers specialized in this area and acting upon their advice mounted surveillance on strategic locations in and around Hyderabad and Sukkur.
On receipt of credible information that the drug traffickers would try to take advantage of transporter strike and attempt to smuggle narcotics, the team of SIU and ASO wings of the Directorate were instructed to remain more vigilant and closely watch the movement of cargo on national highways.
Subsequently, a vehicle was intercepted at Hatri Bypass, Super Highway, enroute from Lahore to Karachi. Inspection resulted in recovery of foreign origin fabric and miscellaneous goods of local origin.
Al the rear end of the container tightly wrapped bundles were found. The same were opened which contained slabs of hashish weighing 140.2 kilograms valuing in excess of Rs16.842 million in international market. The total value of seized goods along with conveyance is Rs29.339 million. It is pertinent to mention here that this is, the first ever case of Narcotics, recorded in the history of this Regional Directorate Hyderabad.
Moreover, three persons are arrested and FIR has been lodged. Further investigation is at hand. The Directorate strives to get hold of the real culprits involved in the heinous crime which is injurious to the society and violation of laws. Director Sadiqullali Khan, appreciated the detecting tom for the remarkable performance.
During the current financial year 2019-20 Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-FBR (Customs) Hyderabad has effected 115 seizures worth Rs300 million (approx) have been made which are higher by 80 percent over the corresponding period last year. The seized items include Iranian diesel, tyres, betel nut, Indian gutkha, cloth, cigarettes, Iranian crockery, dry fruits, Iranian Tiles, auto parts, NCP vehicles and other miscellaneous goods.
During the abovementioned period, 38 non custom paid (NCP) vehicles were also seized as against 18 in corresponding period. 16 vehicles were also seized during the corresponding period. The Directorate through its Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) conducted successful raids and interception.
Directorate has conducted 3 auctions during the current Financial Year and has collected Rs75.392 Million which is higher by 21% over the corresponding period last year besides collecting Rs.6.098 Million as duty and taxes from confiscated goods and vehicles.
The newly established Directorate has significant achievements in establishing writ of law. The Directorate’s team comprises Director Dr.Sadiqullah Khan, Additional Director, Syed Naeem Akhtar and Deputy Director Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi.
