DELHI: The Hyundai Elite i20 will be launched later this month at a premium of Rs 50,000 over the regular hatch version.

Till recently the crossover hatch was speculated by enthusiasts to be christened as the Hyundai i20 Cross, probably taking cue from competition like the Toyota Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo. Hyundai, on the other hand, refrains from calling the Hyundai i20 Active a crossover and instead prefers the term ‘SUV looking car’.

The Hyundai i20 Active has been designed by Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany and will come with chunky plastic cladding all round, a more muscular bumper with rounded fog lamps and a reworked headlamp cluster. Going by the sketches released by Hyundai recently the Hyundai i20 Active will sport new alloy wheels and also hint at a slightly raised suspension and better ground clearance to complete the SUV-ish stance.

The Hyundai i20 Active crossover is expected to command a premium of about Rs 50,000 over the Hyundai i20 hatchback version, and will compete with the likes of Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo.
