TOKYO: The first road-going product of Hyundai’s N Performance Division has been unveiled in the form of the i20 N Sport.

Not quite a full rally-bred transformation, the i20 N Sport instead arrives as a warmer version of the new generation i20 hatch that we won’t see in Australia.

The i20 N Sport is dressed up with front and rear bumper extensions, side skirts, a rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels and N badges on the front guards and tailgate.

Performance modifications include a free-flow cat-back stainless steel exhaust, and stiffened suspension.

Output figures from the 1.4 litre engine jump from a standard 74kW and 115Nm up to a more enthusiastic 85kW and 160Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Neither the i20 N Sport, nor the standard model i20 will be sold in Australia. Hyundai has previously confirmed that the business case for the new i20 doesn’t add up.

Light car buyers in Australia can look to the Hyundai Accent, and those after a sportier drive have the option of a warmed-over SR model with 103kW.
