TOKYO: HYUNDAI reveals that the new Tucson SUV will undergo ANCAP testing next month, when local-specification models become available.
Hyundai Public Relations general manager Bill Thomas confirmed to Practical Motoring that the Tucson has scored five Euro NCAP stars (and since most Tucson models will be coming from Hyundai’s Czech Republic factory, that accounts for most of the Australian range) but when vehicles to Australian specifications arrive, they will undergo local safety testing.
In light of recent disappointments with ANCAP scores by some manufacturers, Hyundai declined to predict whether the Tucson will rate the full five ANCAP stars, but we’d anticipate it should have no trouble, especially since the outgoing ix35 model that it replaces, was a five-star rated vehicle.
Answering another of Practical Motoring’s questions, Mr Thomas confirmed that all Tucson models across the range are fitted with ISOFIX child seat anchor points, an important consideration for any potential buyers with young children.
