Customs Intelligence & Investigation Peshawar seizes drugs worth Rs 7.4m during 2016-17

PESHAWAR: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Peshawar seized different kinds of narcotics worth Rs07.4million during Financial Year (July to June) 2016-17. The smuggling trend of narcotics is almost changed due to adoption of new policies as smugglers are avoiding carrying narcotics within the jurisdiction of the I&I Peshawar. The Intelligence and Investigation confiscated narcotics worth Rs196.9million during corresponding Financial Year 2015-16.

Director I&I Muhammad Saleem told Customs Today that during FY2016-17, the department seized 87 kilogram of hashish valued Rs5.2million and also confiscated opium weighed 22 kilogram worth Rs2.2million.

During corresponding Financial Year 2015-16, I&I Peshawar impounded 3161 kilogram of hashish valued Rs190.9million whereas it did 29 kilogram of opium worth Rs2.8million. The Intelligence and Investigation seized 6.5 kilogram of heroin priced Rs3.2million during above said period in different cases.

During different raids in the first half of the FY16-17, the anti-smuggling squad of the Customs Intelligence confiscated 10 kilograms of hashish and arrested smugglers. During said period, I&I Peshawar seized different kinds of smuggled goods valued Rs24.00million.

During its ongoing campaign against smuggling of narcotics and drugs, Customs Intelligence Peshawar extended full assistance to the law enforcement agencies to curb the smuggling trends in the region.

It is necessary to mention here that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is proactive against smugglings, particularly narcotics, which come into the country from Afghanistan and the money made from this dirty business is used for funding terrorists and anti-social elements.
