‘I & I Peshawar Customs demonstrates brilliant performance during Oct 1st. to Nov. 21’

PESHAWAR: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar registered 21 cases of NDP offending vehicles and smuggling goods and seized seven kilogram of heroin during 1st October to 21st of November’s Financial Year 2017-18. The Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Peshawar lodged 21 cases of smuggling various kinds of goods worth Rs359.25million during above said period.

According to details explained by Muhammad Saleem, Director Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Peshawar, while giving an exclusive interview to Customs Today.

He stated that, during October to 21st of November’s Financial Year (FY) 17-18, the customs staff of I&I Peshawar showed extraordinary performance against the notorious smugglers. During above said period, I&I Peshawar took into possession eight offending vehicles (vehicles involved in smuggling goods). He told CT that said impounded offending vehicles were taken into possession in different cases of smuggling goods. The value of the impounded vehicles is estimated at Rs22.2million.
He further told CT that, during October and November FY17-18, the I&I took into possession four NDP vehicles from different parts of KP and registered cases against them under Customs Act-1969. The worth of the impounded four vehicles is estimated at Rs5.4million. An FIR has been also lodged against the possessors of the NDP vehicles.
Muhammad Saleem told CT that, during 1st October to 21st of November FY17-18, I&I Peshawar registered eight cases against tax evaders and notorious smugglers who tried to bring non-tax-paid foreign origin smuggling goods into different parts of the country. He opined that it is necessary to take action against tax evaders accordingly to avoid the illegal businesses in the region that cause the treasury huge losses. The Customs I&I Squad frustrated eight attempts of smuggling huge quantity of goods valued at Rs322.85million during 1st of October to 21st of November FY17-18.
Director Saleem of I&I Peshawar informed CT of confiscating seven kilogram of heroin from smugglers. The value of the seized heroin is estimated in international market at Rs8.8million. During the month of September FY17-18, the customs squad of I&I Peshawar also seized foreign origin 13.700 kilograms of heroin powder along with a carrier vehicle worth Rs15million (Narcotics is valued at Rs13.7million and vehicle Rs1.3million). An FIR has been lodged against the smugglers according to the Customs Act-1969.
