ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has expressed concerns over the rising water shortage in Islamabad due to which businessmen and residents of many areas were facing problems and called upon the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to pay urgent attention to this important issue to ease the woes of citizens in the federal capital.
ICCI Acting President Sheikh Pervez Ahmed said that some areas of the federal capital were facing irregular supply of water while the water supply had been suspended in Sector I-10/1 for the last two weeks due to which the industrialists and residents of the area were in great trouble.
He said that Capital Administration and Development Division State Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, during a recent visit to the ICCI, had assured to address this issue on urgent basis, but still there was no improvement in the water supply. He called upon the CDA to urgently restore water supply in I-10 Sector and ensure regular supply of water to all the areas of the federal capital as water was basic need of human being and its availability assumed additional importance especially during summer season.
He said Islamabad Dry Port was playing an important role in promoting business activities in this region and CDA had started repair/expansion work on Dry Port road. However, the pace of work was very slow due to which business community was facing difficulties. He stressed that CDA should complete repair/expansion work on Islamabad Dry Port road on priority basis to facilitate business activities.
ICCI Acting President said business community was making useful contribution to the development of local economy and CDA should focus on improving basic infrastructure in commercial centres and industrial areas in order to facilitate the growth of business activities. However, broken roads and lack of other required facilities in markets and industrial areas reflected the indifferent approach of CDA to make Islamabad a model city due to which it was way behind in terms of development as compared to federal capitals of many other countries. He said CDA should pay urgent attention to these issues and fully cooperate with business community in strengthening the local economy.
