IDB to give Pakistan $1.5b and $1305.07m loans for development projects

ISLAMABAD: The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has signed an agreement with the government of Pakistan to give it short-term and long-term credit worth amounts of $1.5 billion and $1305.07 million respectively for various development projects.

The agreement was signed by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and IDB President Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali, visited Pakistan to attend the 11th Board of Trustees’ meeting of International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI).

The grant agreement is for supply and operation (up to five years) of different state-of-the-art, specialised mobile clinics in the areas of primary health care and health awareness, prenatal care and obstetrics, immunisation, treatment and diagnosis of malnutrition among children,  basic laboratory tests, diagnostic ultrasound, X-ray and treatment of chronic diseases, clinical and early detection of cancer, heart disease and diabetes, eye surgery and detection of cataract, dialysis and monitoring and discovering epidemic diseases.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Dr Mohamed Ali and said that the government of Pakistan had prioritised economic revival as a key policy objective and intended to pursue it in consultation with her development partners and stakeholders.

The minister appreciated IDB’s role in promoting Islamic Banking and thanked the president IDB for enhancing the commodity Murabaha Financing for the import of oil and urea and for its support regarding the polio eradication programme.
