IHC adjourns hearing of Orient Power Company tax matter

ISLAMABAD: A single bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday adjourned the hearing of a tax matter filed by M/s Orient Power Company (Private) Limited challenging a show cause notice issued by Large Taxpayers Unit, Islamabad.

The single bench comprising of Justice Athar Minallah could not hear the case due to hearing of other cases. The administration dated in office hearing on the matter. The ATIR, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), officers of the LTU, including Commissioner Inland Revenue, Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue and Commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) were made respondents in the case.

The company had filed the case seeking restrictions for the LTU from recovering outstanding tax amount or making any other coercive move prior to the court’s directions on the issue.

The company also stated that the show cause notice mentioning outstanding tax amount was issued with mala fide intentions. The appellant had also mentioned that departmental obligations were not met amid processing the notice of recovery demand while later the adjudication did not address grievances of the appellant.
