IHC bars LTU from recovering outstanding taxes from M/s Mari Petroleum

ISLAMABAD: A single bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has restricted the Large Taxpayers’ Unit to recover outstanding taxes of Rs 345,797 from M/s Mari Petroleum Company Limited.

Justice Aamer Farooq of of the IHC issued these directives, adding that the LTU, Islamabad must abstain from recovering penalty amount from the appellant.

Moreover, the court also directed the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) to decide the appeal filed before it by M/s Mari Petroleum Company Limited within 45 days.

The court was hearing the petition filed by M/s Mari Petroleum Company Limited and disposed it of with the said directions.

The appellant had challenged Large Taxpayers’ Units’s order, dated December 27, 2014. LTU had issued the order under sections of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), LTU’s Chief Commissioner, Commissioner Inland Revenue, Commissioner Inland Revenue (Audit), and ATIR were made party in the case.
