IHC directs ATIR to decide M/s Wateen Telecom case within 60 days

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) to decide M/s Wateen Telecom Limited’s application within 60 days, challenging a recovery notice of Rs 1.878 million.

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case and also restricted the Large Taxpayers Unit, Islamabad (LTU) from recovering the said amount from the appellant’s accounts.

The bench directed the ATIR to decide on the appellant’s application within 60 days and submit report before the bench.

The appellant had challenged a recovery order of Large Taxpayers’ Unit stating the recoverable outstanding tax of Rs 1,878,191 for the tax year 2009 in head of income tax under provisions of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), LTU’s Chief Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue and ATIR were made respondent in the case.
