IHC directs LTU to decide petition filed by Wateen Telecom within 60 days

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Large Taxpayers’ Unit (LTU) to decide Wateen Telecom Limited’s application within 60 days.

A single bench of the IHC comprising Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case and also restricted the LTU from recovering the amount from appellant’s accounts. The bench directed the LTU to decide on the appellant’s application within 60 days and submit a report before the bench.

The appellant had challenged a recovery order of the LTU issued on February 29, 2016. The LTU had issued the order, stating the outstanding tax of around Rs 84.3 million is recoverable from the company for the tax year 2011.

The order was issued under provisions of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), LTU’s chief commissioner, commissioner Inland Revenue, commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals), and assistant commissioner Inland Revenue were made party in the case.
