Illegal clearance of consignments: Customs Court cancels importer’s bail, forfeits Rs 2m surety

KARACHI: The Special Customs and Anti-Smugling Court has cancelled the bail of the importer of raw material of antibiotics medicines in all three cases besides forfeiting Rs 2 million surety.

The court ordered the authorities to arrest the importer Muhammad Ali Chandna and all other co-accused.

According to intelligence sources, the importer had cleared the consignments of prohibited raw material used for antibiotics medicine. The importer short paid the revenue against the defined taxes/duties on the reports of Customs Laboratory established at the Customs House Karachi.

The deputy chemical examiner, Faheem Khan, deputed at the Customs Laboratory has already been removed from his service for his alleged involvement for making lab reports in favor of importer.

The sources said that the Model Customs Collectorate MCC Appraisement East has produced all the reports/records of illegal clearance of raw material used for manufacturing antibiotics.
