IMF appoints Dutch economist as new representative in Greece

ATHENS: The International Monetary Fund has appointed Dutch economist Dennis Botman as its new top representative in Greece.

Botman will replace the incumbent, Wes McGrew, on September 2, when the American will have completed his normal three-year rotation in the Athens position. Botman has experience of researching financial crises.

“Mr. Botman, a Dutch national, has been with the IMF since 2002. He has previously worked in the Asia and Pacific Department—as the deputy chief on Japan as well as the IMF’s Resident Representative in the Philippines—the Economic Modeling Division in the Research Department, and the Fiscal Affairs Department,” said the IMF on Friday.

“He participated in numerous missions, including in Europe (e.g. Germany, UK), and his research covers a variety of topics, including general equilibrium modeling, financial crises and speculative attacks, aging and social security reform in Europe and Japan, and public finance.” “He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.”
