KARACHI: The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) executive board is scheduled to hold a meeting on December 8 when it is likely to approve the release of $1.2 billion loan tranche for Pakistan.

The board is expected to approve a payment of $1.2 billion under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which includes $1 billion for the EFF program and an additional $200 million for climate financing.

The total amount is expected to be transferred to Pakistan’s account on December 9, bringing the total disbursements under both programs to about $3.3 billion.

Before the board meeting, Pakistan is expected to publish its Governance and Corruption Diagnostic (GCD) Assessment Report, a key structural benchmark under the EFF program.

This report was originally due at the end of July but was delayed several times due to technical and factual disagreements between Pakistani authorities and IMF experts.

Officials have stated that these differences have now been resolved, and Pakistan has committed to publishing the report prior to the board meeting.

Earlier, Pakistan and the IMF reached a staff-level agreement on October 14 for the second review of the $7 billion EFF and the first review of the $1.4 billion Resilience and Sustainability Fund (RSF).
