ISLAMABAD: International Mail Office (IMO) Islamabad seized 120 grams of heroin from a parcel booked from Azad Kashmir to England. The value of seized heroin is yet to be determined.
According to details, Assistant Collector IMO Sadia seized a registry parcel on 30th of January 2017 during the clearance of export registry parcels at the IMO Chaklala Rawalpindi.
She added that the parcel comprised of one embroidered lady’s suit at the Export Section and the said packet was placed under examination which led to detection of 120 grams of heroin concealed inside the shirt. She said the case has been forwarded to Investigation and Prosecution Department.
Sadia Usman said the IMO confiscated many illegal consignments of heroin from IMO Islamabad and arrested smugglers and registered cases against them. She informed Customs Today that the above said seizure of heroin was 6th case confiscated by the IMO during the last six months.
The assistant collector said the IMO seized first consignment of heroin of 230 grams booked from Swabi-KPK to Lancashire-UK. This drug was concealed in the stitched children’s jackets.
She further said the second consignment of heroin was of 210 grams booked from Nowshera, Pakistan, to USA. The heroin was concealed in the cavities made in the hard binding of the book.
She informed the reporter that the IMO seized third seizure weighed 500 grams of heroin booked from Mirpur-Dadyal, AJK, to Birmingham, England. The powder was concealed in the lining of the bag.
She added that the 4th consignment of heroin was of 260 grams booked from Gujar Khan to University of Northampton, UK. The said drug was concealed in the binding of books.
The assistant collector said the 5th case of heroin was of 200 grams booked from Islamabad to North York, Ontario, Canada. The drug was concealed inside the cards.
