KARACHI: The import of peanut has doubled in the running year due to low production in the country. At least 62,735 ton peanut worth $34 million was imported in the first quarter of the year while 32,967 ton worth $27 million had been imported in the previous year within same duration. 142,488 ton Peanut ($104.5 million) was imported in 2013-14 which was more than 34 percent more than the previous year. The peanut was imported from India through Karachi and Lahore. The wholesale price in India was Rs 107 while in Para Chanar was Rs 175. The rate of Sukkur variety has increased from Rs 118 to 150.
