Importers facing issues in clearing consignments from QICT

KARACHI: The importers are facing immense difficulties in order to clear their consignments from Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Port Muhammad Bin Qasim due to the lethargic approach of the operators and examination staff deployed at Qasim Internal Containers Terminal (QICT).

The importers informed Customs Today that the terminal staff at QICT is causing problems in clearance process of their consignments. The said that the consignments have been laying unattended for last six days which compel them to pay hefty amount in terms of demurrage and detention charges, which ultimately increases their “cost of doing business”.

The importers further said that the terminal operator has facing shortage of machinery and equipments at QICT which including lifter and other machinery.

They further said that the Customs officials in examination area were also playing their role in multiplying the woes of the importers.

The importers further informed this scribe that they have already taken up the matter before Collector- Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and other authorities concerned and the high authorities of the Collectorate assured them to resolve their issues as soon as possible.
