Importers laud steps taken by Customs, terminal operators at Port Qasim

KARACHI: The Port Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) and Pakistan Customs have collectively succeeded in resolving the issues at the terminal.

According to details, the importers have expressed concerns over the bulk cargo containers piling up at the QICT and also demanded the authorities take immediate step in this regard.

The Customs Today had also raised the issue of the gridlock of hundreds of cargo containers at the QICT.

Following the plights of the importers, the terminal operators and the Customs authorities of Customs Collectorate Port Muhammad Bin Qasim have jointly formed a strategy through which the importers would be facilitated accordingly.

The authorities concerned of QICT were of the view that the skilled and competent labour only can access into the examination area where the containers were being off-loaded.

On the other hand, the Customs authorities of Port Muhammad Bin Qasim have already issued assessment alerts for the Customs officials and officers who are being deployed at examination area of the terminal.

According to those alerts, the Customs staff should have to clear the container within stipulated time frame, adding that zero pendency should be ensured at the end of the day.

The importers, with the steps taken by the authorities concerned of terminal operators and Customs Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, have expressed their satisfaction and said that the above-mentioned steps would certainly boost the import activity at QICT and also helps in contributing the revenue.

The importers further said that the action taken by the authorities concerned of terminal operators and Pakistan Customs would also safe the cost of doing business of the importers and the traders, as they don’t have to pay hefty amount in terms of demurrage and detention.

The importers further demanded of the authorities concerned of FBR to keep a proper check on the activities being continued at KICT and PICT in connection with the clearance of cargo.
